The central story takes place in Kuomintang controlled 1930s’ Shanghai. Due to the betrayal of a traitor, several civilians are arrested on suspicion of being an undercover Communist Party member code named Wangpai (Trump Card). As the group is tortured and forced to confess, the question remains as to who is the actual spy.
